Chapter 5 summary

While Cole was swimming, he realized he made a huge mistake. He wanted to get back to the land as quick as possible, because he got a leg cramp. When he was back on the land, he saw the white Spirit Bear. Cole wanted to kill it, because it had no right to stare at him. Then he looked around for some kind of weapon to kill the bear. But when he came back the Spirit Bear was gone. After he got back at his ''shelter'', he saw the at.óow laying on the grass. He thought again about the feather in the Circle and that he screamed to his father while he didn't have the feather in his hand.

Chapter 4 summary

In this chapter, Cole thinks back to the first Hearing Circle. A lot of people came, including his parents and Peter. The keeper tells about the healing of circle justice and holds a feather. The feather goes around and everyone who wants to may speak and say something.

Chapter 3 summary

While Cole is looking in the flames he thinks about his conversation with Garvey. In this flashback, Cole explains why he doesn't like his life. Then Garvey picked some ingredients and a cake. Cole says that the ingredients were awful, but the cake made out of those ingredients was okay. Then Garvey stood up and walked away. Back at the island, Cole swum towards other islands to find someone to pick him up.
